Happy First Birthday in Heaven Faith

Happy First Birthday Faith

Happy First Birthday Faith

Happy first birthday Faith.  I had a difficult day, off and on.  Yesterday morning (since it is after midnight now), I woke up and went to go get Faith some balloons.  I suppose I really got them for me since I am the one who really needed them to celebrate her birthday.  Then I needed to go to the grocery store to get a few items.  After that, I headed back home and got to work on Faith’s birthday cake.

Faith’s Birthday Cake

I looked around quite a bit for ideas for Faith’s first birthday cake.  I decided to make a lemon cake since Owen and I really both like lemon.  After all, we were the ones eating the cake.  I just made a small cake since, again, the two of uHappy First Birthday Faiths were the only ones eating the cake.  The hibiscus flower decorations represent Faith to us.  The first flower that Owen gave to me was a red hibiscus.  This prompted our decision to plant the hibiscus bush in our backyard in remembrance and honor of Faith.  I used pink and red fake hibiscus flowers around her cake to make it pretty and remind us of her.  The cake I made for Faith’s first birthday wasn’t perfect, but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.  It was a 3-layer lemon cake decorated with pink frosting.  I put hibiscus flowers all the way around it and a pink sparkly #1 candle on top.  Faith would have really liked her cake, I think.  I am sure she had a really pretty and tasty one in Heaven for her birthday!

Faith’s Ashes

One special thing we did on Faith’s first birthday was to transfer her ashes into a beautiful urn that we purchased.  It was a strange day and evening, but also very healing for us, I believe.

Faith Journal

Just now, I wrote to Faith in my journal, which was nice, as I haven’t done that in awhile.  It helped me a lot to write to her.  I wrote her about today and about a year ago the day she was born.  It was difficult but also helpful and healing for me. Also, I think it is very important to write down those details that I remember now that I may not remember as the years go by.

Difficult Day

Today has been one of the most difficult days I’ve had in awhile, in regards to Faith.  While I do think of her frequently and talk about her, typically, it is not an all day affair, as it was today.  I think it was very important in my grief journey for me to do this, however.  We were created to grieve and it is an important process that we all need to go through in our own way and in our own time.
I love and miss Faith every day, and I will continue to do so as long as I am here.  She is and will always be my first daughter.
Happy first birthday, Faith.  Mommy loves and misses you baby girl.

  1. Let it flow…whether it's tears or laughter…it is all productive and conducive to healing…(beautiful cake, the hibiscus are especially fitting…delicate, lovely & bright…just as an angel should be…)

  2. Thank you Kip. I fully agree with you. I started speaking out about my journey for my healing and for others who've experienced similar that never had a chance or had difficulty speaking about their loss. Thank you, I really enjoyed making Faith's cake. Blessings!
