Beautiful Spring Weather
Today we spent a lot of time outside enjoying the beautiful spring weather together. Watching Joy playing outside today, I again, realized that so much of what she does are simple joys. These joys make our everyday lives so wonderful if we take time out to recognize and enjoy them. I believe these often go unnoticed as we rush through our hectic lives. Viewing life through the innocent eyes of a child gives me the opportunity to focus on these simple joys. As we sat in our field of clover in the yard today, I realized that it was my simple joy for the day. Joy had so much fun picking the clover and giving some to me (melt my heart). I have kept some to turn into jewelry later. I will have to post the process of how I create beautiful treasures from Joy’s gifts at a later date.
Playing is Life
My husband and I were talking about how much Joy loves playing and life in general. Right now, playing is her life, and it is such a great lesson for us. As I watch her on a daily basis, I am reminded to relax and have fun. I am also reminded to be thankful for the simple things in life. These are some of the most valuable things in life.
During our time outside this evening, my husband and I were talking about our yard and what it would be like if we had a yard that looked like this in the city. Needless to say, it would be pretty funny, since we have a country yard now with weeds, grasses of different types, clover, dandelions, etc…It cracks me up now to think about having our yard in an HOA community where they would freak out, LOL!
Simple Joy – Field of Clover
Anyway, a large part of our yard is made up of flowering clover. Growing up, I remember looking for 4-leaf clovers in the lawn from time to time. Joy picked one of the clover flowers and gave it to me today. I have this flower set aside to make into some sort of jewelry, by the way! I couldn’t help but smell the clover flowers as we were sitting near and in the yard this evening. It has such a wonderful subtle sweet smell that the honey bees love. It was just so precious to sit and watch Joy playing and enjoying the nice cool grass in the yard. I realized that I was really enjoying it as well, and how cool, beautiful, and springy it was, as I sat with her in the yard.
Thankful for Simple Joys
Again today, I am reminded of the simple joys in life; the smell of the clover flowers, the smell of the fresh spring rain, the laughter of a toddler playing in the dirt and watching bugs, the smell of my husband’s newest grilling creation…I am so thankful for my family and the simple joys that we share. As you go about your week, I challenge you to look for your field of clover. What simple joy are you thankful for today?
