Not Rich from Blogging (Yet)
This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my Disclosure for more information.
I am not rich from blogging (yet), but I wanted to start from the very beginning, sharing how I am slowly learning to make money from my blog. I find it motivating to read how others are making money and growing their blogs. So, I thought to hear from me from the beginning how I have made my first dollar and how I am continuing to make money as I go along may be motivating for someone else. I hope something jumps out at you and motivates you in your blogging journey!
If you are a stay-at-home parent looking to make some side money or work up to full-time income from blogging, I want you to know that you CAN do it! I am a stay-at-home mom, with BIG blogging dreams and slowly working toward each goal for my blog. As you can see in this post, I am far from my goal, but do not despise small beginnings. Like I have said before if others can do it, so can I! If others can do it, so can YOU!
I am reporting income as I earn it, in the month that I earn it. I wanted to clarify this, as I have seen some reports done as they are paid. Reporting as you earn is the accurate way to report, especially from an accounting standpoint. When you earn it, it goes on the books as an accounts receivable until it is paid to you.
Beginning with Ads
Not long after I started my WordPress blog I applied to be an affiliate with Amazon Affiliates. I also applied with Google AdSense. Amazon Affiliates is WELL worth joining. They have great ads that are already done that you can use anywhere on your blog. You can also find any product that is available on Amazon and get a link to that product. Google AdSense, on the other hand, in my opinion, is NOT worth joining at all. After being with them for three months and making a whopping $.48, I found a great eBook, Make Money Blogging at any Level, which suggested that I apply for Gourmet Ads and drop AdSense.
As you can see from my breakdown below, I went from Google AdSense for 3 months, making a whopping 48 cents, to making a couple dollars in impressions with Gourmet Ads. I HIGHLY recommend Gourmet Ads if you are looking for a better payout on impressions. Even though this is not a ton of money for me yet, percentage-wise, the difference is huge. As I grow my blog, this difference will be very substantial.
Google AdSense (Jun-Aug) $.48
Gourmet Ads (Sept-Oct) $5.07
Amazon Affiliates (Jun-Oct) $36.44
Other Affiliate Income
I work with a handful of affiliates. I am also constantly on the lookout for affiliate relationships that will benefit my followers with high-quality information! For the sake of this post, I am grouping all of my miscellaneous affiliates into one lump sum.
Miscellaneous Affiliates (Oct) $32.00
Since I am a pretty new professional blogger, sponsored posts are fairly new to me. Not long ago, I signed up with Shareasale and am using some of their ads on my site. I applied for a handful of their merchants that I believe are a good fit for my blog based on my followers. I was contacted by one of Shareasale’s merchants, The RealReal, to do a sponsored post this month, which was VERY exciting for me. It is my first sponsored post and I was honored to share for them.
I am applying for other opportunities for sponsored posts currently. That being said, a lot of sponsored posts are offered to bloggers with a much higher readership than mine, so I am just plugging away slowly!
Shareasale (Oct) $100.00
WordPress Blog Setup Now Available!
I have just recently decided to offer some basic blog setup services on my blog. I have a WordPress Basic Blog Setup package for those who need some help getting started and don’t have a really big budget.
I have done elements of website creation now for over a decade and want to share some of that knowledge and experience with others at very affordable rates!
I will add WordPress Basic Plus Blog Setup as well. The Basic Plus package will include some printable PDF instructions to help do some basic tasks as you continue with your blog. I have found that these types of documents are very helpful especially when I am learning. On that note, if I find them useful, I figure my customers will too!
I am excited to share that I sold my first Basic Blog Setup today, so that is Oct Income, YEAH! I just wanted to update this post since the month isn’t over.
My Basic Blog Setup is available for purchase here if you would like to check it out. I’ll be posting pictures of my work and reviews soon too!
Total Blogging Income (May-Oct) $246.51
As you can easily see from my blogging income breakdown, by no means do I make a ton from blogging (YET)! However, I am learning new things every day and applying tips and tricks to grow my blog. One day soon, my blog will be my family’s sole source of income. I know with a lot of time and hard work, I will succeed.
Since I currently use a free theme and am not doing any paid marketing for my blog yet, I have no monthly blogging expenses. The only fees I have so far are PayPal fees if someone orders my products. Other than that, I only have my annual hosting and domain fees, which I have made back at this point, so that is GREAT!
I know from research that once I start making more I WILL be investing in some marketing tools to save myself a lot of work and time, but for having a very minimal budget, I am happy where I am today.
I hope that seeing my income reports will be beneficial to you. Hopefully, they will motivate you to start your own blog or put more time and effort into monetizing your blog. Let’s grow together. Please let me know how you have grown your blog and ways that you have earned income or increased your income. I’d love to hear from you!
Best of Blogging to you!
